The history of the Brandenburg Panther Battalion and the prehistory as the 1st Battalion of the 26th Panzer Regiment take place against the background of the fronts collapsing everywhere in the last one and a half years of the war. The reader takes part in the retreat battles in the vast steppes of southern Russia and Romania and the battles on the East Prussian border and in the Baltic States. At the end of 1944 he was surrounded with the department in the Memel bridgehead in East Prussia and experienced the relief raids on Budapest at the end of 1944/beginning of 1945. Finally, in February 1945, the renamed department was transferred to the Oder front near Küstrin, where the Panthers were one of the last tank departments are opposed to the Soviet attack on Berlin. Through the descriptions, the reader is not only involved in the battles of the department but rather in the overall events of the last weeks of the war on the Oder. He immediately experienced the collapse of the entire Oder front and the retreat and sinking in the Halbe pocket. The descriptions are so close and haunting that one cannot escape the drama of the events. If you want to understand what happened back then, you can go on a journey through time with this book.
After 10 years of research, this story is a book that stands out from many other books about tank units or the last months of the war. The text is supported by over 200 photos, almost all of which are unknown, from operations on all fronts, as well as 27 colored maps.
A unique documentation, in which the opportunity was once again taken to fall back on the last contemporary witnesses.
