This decal sheet is numbered 48037 and arrived from Iliad decals in a stout cardboard envelope. The subjects of this sheet are:
F-106B, 57-2514, 27th FIS, Loring AFB, Maine, Summer 1969
F-106B, 57-2535, B-1B Flight Test Program, Palmdale, California, August 1988
F-106B, 57-2513, B-1B Flight Test Program, 1987
F-106B, 57-2529, 539th FIS, McGuire AFB, New Jersey, 1961
F-106B, 57-2535, 194th FIS, California ANG, October 1968
The aircraft are all overall ADC Grey (FS 16473) for the most part. The set contains just the aircraft-specific decals and you will have to use the stencils from the kit you’re using. There is only a single 1/48 F-106B kit out there and that was done by Trumpeter.
The contents of this set are:
- 1 double-sided colour sheet of instructions
- 1 21 cm x 14 cm decal sheet
- 1 errata decal sheet
- 1 small errata text sheet
The instructions are clear and simple and give all the extra details you’re going to need to get your build right. The port side views of each aircraft have details against each of them letting you know details about the painting scheme used and any idiosyncrasies of the individual aircraft. All the colours used on the aircraft are named. On the reverse side of the sheet are top views of the 2 different paint schemes used in the 5 aircraft showing decal placement on the top and bottom of the aircraft along with a photo of the natural metal intakes used on one aircraft and close up drawings of the undercarriage legs.
The decal sheet, as you can see in the photographs and the video, is perfectly in register, well detailed and the colours look good too. The backing film is minimal to non-existent except in places where it is needed to line text up. You do get replacement decals for the tail of option #1 to replace the decals on the main sheet that came out missing a couple of stars.
This set is available for $12.00 from Iliad Design’s site.
This is a quality decal set for some unusual F-106Bs
Many thanks to Iliad Design for the review sample.
